As a child, Meatheads Market Owner, Nathan Barber grew up working on his grandfather’s farm. He was raised knowing beef cattle, working with local farmers, and making hay and feed for their animals. As a result of his childhood, Nate grew up loving farming, running equipment and the overall process of owning and operating a family farm.

Mahoning ShadowTrail

Named after Mahoning Creek that it parallels and Punxsutawney Phil’s famous shadow. Mahoning Shadow Trail is highlighted by several areas of interest. From its terminus in the Valier/Fordham area, the trail winds along scenic Mahoning Creek past a group of several coke ovens, which were once used for the smelting of coal into coke. Enjoy the interpretive display located in this area.

Visit the Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center to learn about the science and folklore of weather. The interactive exhibits provide hands-on learning opportunities for all ages to explore. The center is located in the former post office building, which has beautiful architectural details and a treasured past. It’s also home to the Meteorologist Hall of Fame. Operating hours are 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and days vary by season.

Phils’ Burrow

Punxsutawney Phil lives in a climate-controlled environment, within the Punxsutawney Memorial Library. Phil can be viewed at any time, through an outside viewing window. He shares his home with his wife, Phyllis. Their home has a painted mural background with man made rock structures to help create their own burrows. Phil and Phyllis are fed and tended to daily by the Inner Circle. During library hours, you are welcome to go inside the library and view Phil and Phyllis through a viewing window that is in the children’s book and reading section.
