This half-mile trail is not only a journey through nature but also a passage through the lore of our region’s most famous day.

No visit is complete without stopping by Phil’s Burrow at the Punxsutawney Memorial Library. Here, Punxsutawney Phil and his wife Phyllis live in a specially designed, climate-controlled habitat visible through a viewing window. This cozy setup, complete with artistic rock structures and a picturesque mural, allows guests to observe our furry celebrity in comfort. Additionally, during library hours, visitors can view Phil from inside, nestled among the children’s reading section, adding an educational twist to your visit.

One unique event is the annual Groundhog Picnic, where Punxsutawney Phil drinks his special “elixir of life,” a potion that, according to legend, extends his life by seven years with each sip. This whimsical tradition adds to the magical lore surrounding Phil and his annual weather predictions.

For those with a creative flair, embark on a treasure hunt for the Phantastic Phils. Scattered throughout the town, these 41 fiberglass sculptures are each uniquely painted by artists, celebrating the spirit of the community and its groundhog pride.
